Hello, I'm Eddy, a bonsai artist based out of Miami, FL. My passion for the art of bonsai ignited at the tender age of 9. I remember my mother buying me my first tree, a juniper, that I kept on my nightstand. It was dead within a month. This initial setback failed to deter my love for bonsai. Rather, it served as a catalyst, fostering a steadfast commitment to honing my skills and nurturing a lifelong devotion to the artistry of bonsai cultivation.
Bonsai had to take a back seat throughout most of my 20's and 30's as I worked as a professional dancer. I toured extensively around the world with Momix Dance Company. Being a dancer required me to live in NYC, where I quickly learned that my bonsai dreams needed more than a tiny NYC apartment.
All of that changed when my wife and I welcomed our daughter, Isla into the world in 2017. We settled into a more stationary lifestyle and moved to Florida. That's when all of those repressed bonsai years came flooding back. I became a man obsessed. My love for small trees and nature was only heightened by the natural beauty surrounding me in our new home in Miami. It was then that I started Grove Bonsai.
I get most excited about using the species that we have right here in South Florida to create bonsai trees. I strive to capture the spirit of our beautiful landscapes, from the ancient Bald Cypress in the Everglades to the tortured Buttonwood of the Florida Keys. We have so much tree goodness right here in Florida!
I continue to be consumed by these little trees. My first thoughts in the morning and my last thoughts at night are about bonsai. I am also constantly studying with renowned Bonsai teachers from around the country.
These days, you'll find me sharing my bonsai wisdom with anyone who'll listen. I love sharing these miniaturized trees and believe that they are the catalyst for so much more.
