Sourcing a tree is all about the hunt. When looking for material we prioritize trunk movement, age, and any other interesting characteristics that can be highlighted. We essentially look for "good bones" We also look for species that we know will work well in the planned environment.

The word bonsai translates to "tree in tray". The potting process is whats makes a bonsai a "BONSAI". Choice of pot is meant to compliment and further the tree's design. Potting a bonsai means expertly working the roots in preparation for a containerized enviroment.

Styling requires taking what the tree has to offer and highlighting it's natural beauty. Some trees are delicate and ephemeral and some are prized for their rugged nature. Each tree is unique and it is through bending, pruning and wiring, that we tease out their magic

Maintaining a bonsai never stops. It is a dance between letting a tree grow freely, and performing specific techniques at the right time of year to further the design. Maintenance includes pruning, root pruning, repotting, unwiring and rewiring.
